The Garda’s search for the torso of a boy who was killed before his remains were dismembered began Wednesday and is expected to continue for several days.
Garda search teams on Wednesday morning began combing a large area in the northeast as part of their efforts to find the teenager’s torso.
The boy was killed in the region in recent years and his remains were dismembered. However, although the Gardaí found most of his body parts, his torso has never been recovered.
The Gardaí investigating the murder of the teenager has carried out a series of searches of the boy’s torso in the period since his murder, the latest of which began on Wednesday.
The Garda team has received information several times about the possible location of the torso, but to date searches of those sites have been unsuccessful. “Gardaí is conducting a search. . . as part of the investigation into the murder of a minor, ”Garda headquarters said in response to questions.
“The local Gardaí are being assisted by the Louth division search unit, Garda dog units, Garda water units and the technical office at Garda headquarters.”
On Wednesday, Gardaí searched a large area of vacant land next to a local authority housing estate in a northeastern city in search of the torso, according to the latest intelligence received.
The area was cordoned off at dawn and more than 30 members of the force participated in the search. While Gardaí wants to find the murdered teenager’s torso so he can bury it with the rest of his remains, they also believe that it would be valuable evidence in the case and shed light on how the victim died.
In the weeks after the murder the boy was buried, although his torso had not been recovered, and the investigation into the murder has continued. Legal restrictions mean that the child’s identity and other details about the case cannot be revealed.
