Gardaí has requested an autopsy following the discovery of a man’s body in a house in Cork city on Friday night.

The 45-year-old man’s body was found with head injuries at the Curraheen Drive home in Bishopstown, on the south side of the city, shortly after 4 p.m. Gardaí believes the man was dead for at least 24 hours.

The man, who is originally from the north side of Cork, had not been seen since Christmas. Her body was discovered by a woman who called the home and then contacted emergency services.

Paramedics rushed to the scene, but a local doctor pronounced the man dead. Gardaí immediately cordoned off the area and began an investigation.

The man’s body was in the house overnight, with a pathologist due to conduct a preliminary examination at the scene early Saturday, before the body is transferred to Cork University Hospital for an autopsy.

Investigators hope that the autopsy will clarify whether the man suffered his injuries in a fall or whether there was foul play.

It is understood that there are no signs of forced entry into the house.
