Gardaí has renewed its appeal for information on a hit-and-run on the Furbo Are in Co Galway on Wednesday in which a woman in her 50s was killed.
The incident occurred in the vicinity of the well-known Pairicin bar in Furbo on the main road from Galway to Spiddal.
The Gardaí investigation established that the dead woman called locally as Rita Dirrane of Inis Mór was brought to this place at approximately 6.30 pm on Wednesday afternoon.
They now believe a 2004 to 2007 Toyota Corolla was involved in the collision.
Inspector Brian Ryan from the Salthill Garda station said: “A Garda Síochána asks the driver of this vehicle to come over and contact the Gardaí in Salthill. Similarly, we would like to appeal to members of the public who may have information, or may have knowledge of a vehicle that matches this description and has been damaged in the last 24 hours, to come forward. “
It is understood that the deceased was walking on the right side of the road in the direction of Spiddal when she was hit by a vehicle traveling from the direction of Spiddal in the direction of Barna.
A post-mortem examination of the deceased was carried out on Thursday at Galway University Hospital by assistant state pathologist, Dr. Margaret Bolster. Results are not disclosed for operational reasons.
