Police have launched a manhunt for a gang of masked robbers who detained an elderly couple at their home and escaped with a huge sum of cash.
The aggravated robbery took place at approximately 5.15pm on New Years Eve at a home in Newbridge, Co Kildare.
Four or five masked men, armed with what investigators believe was a firearm, forcibly entered the home and terrorized the two owners, a man in his 80s and a woman in his 90s.
The couple were unharmed in the incident, but were treated for concussion at the scene.
The gang got away with a large amount of cash in the raid.
Gardaí is appealing to anyone who may have information in relation to this incident to come forward.
A spokesperson said: “The Gardaí is particularly interested in speaking to anyone who has seen something unusual at Parc Mhuire between 5pm. and at 6.30pm last night or anyone who can assist in the investigation to contact the Newbridge Garda station at 045 431212, the confidential Garda line 1 800 666 111 or any Garda station.
“It was a terrifying experience for the elderly couple, but thankfully they were not injured. Investigations are ongoing. “
