Gardai investigates death at second shelter when 30-year-old man was found dead in Tullamore

Gardai is investigating all the circumstances surrounding the death of a man at a shelter in the central region.

A 30-year-old man died last Wednesday, April 22, in a housing unit in Tullamore, Co Offaly.

He was residing in a different hostel where two women died and two men became seriously ill yesterday.

A Garda spokesperson told The Irish Daily Mirror: “The emergency services and Gardaí attended the scene shortly after 11 am after the man became ill. He was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

“An autopsy was performed and Gardaí is awaiting the toxicology results to determine the course of his investigation. His death is not believed to be related to Covid.”

“The local coroner has been notified and inquiries continue.”

Yesterday, two women tragically died after falling ill at a homeless shelter in the Midlands.

And two other men were also seriously ill after being discovered at the shelter in Tullamore, Co Offaly.

It is understood that the two women were found dead between 2.30 am on Sunday and 8 am on Monday.

“Unexplained deaths” involve a woman in her teens and a 44-year-old woman.

Since then, one of the 23-year-old men has been taken to the hospital where he is said to be in critical condition. The second man, 32, is also sick in the hospital.

The deaths are not believed to be related to Covid-19.
