AN GARDA SÍOCHÁNA has made modifications to two of its designated checkpoints on the main access routes to Dublin, following major delays as a result of checkpoints in various areas yesterday.

Starting at 7 a.m. This morning’s changes are in effect on the N7, at Junction 6 beyond Naas and on the outskirts of Co Dublin, and on the M2 Junction 2, just before Charlestown.

“A new traffic design has been introduced at these checkpoints that provides an exclusive lane for heavy vehicles to minimize delays or interruptions in commercial distribution,” Gardaí said.

“The signage will be in place before reaching the checkpoints and the right lane (lane 3) will be available only for heavy vehicles.”

All drivers are asked to follow the signs. Drivers of heavy vehicles are asked to slow down when approaching the garda checkpoints, as they may have to stop.

There will be fixed garda checkpoints on 132 roads across the country under Operation Fanacht for at least the next three weeks, with the entire country under Covid-19 Level 3 restrictions.

Under these restrictions, people are advised not to leave their county except for essential reasons. They are also advised to work from home if possible.

This morning AA Roadwatch said that traffic is slow in several areas.
