Gardaí has ​​issued more than 13,000 fines to those who violate Covid rules

GARDAÍ SAID THAT THEY HAVE issued around 13,600 fines nationwide for a variety of crimes related to breaches of Covid laws.

The vast majority of those tickets have been issued in connection with the 5km rule.

The breakdown is as follows:

  • € 10,013 100 fines for non-essential trips
  • € 538 500 fines for non-essential trips to airports / ports
  • € 420 500 fines for organizing a house party and € 1,620 150 fines for attending a house party
  • 244 fines of € 80 each for not covering the face
  • 144 fines of € 100 for non-essential trips of people who do not habitually reside in the State

Gardaí said they continue to investigate large-scale violations of the rules.

A garda spokesperson said: “These are not just breaches of regulations, but are a risk to the individuals involved, their families and loved ones, and continue to put everyone’s health and recovery from the Covid pandemic at risk. 19.

“Recent polls have shown that most people believe they are doing the right thing, but the reality is that the level of casual contacts is still high.”

Gardaí will continue nationwide checkpoints and high-visibility patrols in public services, parks and beauty spots across the country this weekend in support of public health regulations.

Speaking today, Deputy Commissioner for Surveillance and Security, Anne Marie McMahon, said: “Unfortunately, despite constant public health advice, we still see people attending house parties and other large social gatherings. Going to such gatherings puts you, your loved ones, and everyone else you come in contact with after contracting COVID-19.

“Everyone has a role to play in this. The best way to stay safe this weekend is to stay home. If you are going out, stay within 5 km, limit your contacts with other people, maintain social distancing and wash your hands regularly. “
