Gardai has found multiple license installations in violation of Covid-19 rules in the last 24 hours.

Violations were found in Limerick, Cork, Carlow and Meath ranging from ‘dank pubs’ not serving food to open shebeens with no set rules.

Gardai said that most licensed establishments have been following the rules by listing the following infractions in the last day;

• ‘wet’ pubs open for underground businesses (ex: fresh pints, television on and fire lighting)

• ‘gastro-pubs’ that do not comply with Covid-19 regulations and guidelines (eg: no registration in place, 12 tables occupied and no food signs on any table, inspected at 10:45 p.m. tables with 2 to 4 people at each within 2 meters of each other, no evidence of substantial meals, staff do not wear face masks)

• ‘shebeen’ premises (eg: Search made on a suspected shebeen, 30 people socializing, the crowd did not cover their faces, there was no social distancing, they consumed intoxicating liquor)

Files have been sent to the DPP regarding all violations identified in the last 24 hours.

A Garda spokesperson said: “In all cases where violations of public health regulations have been detected, the Garda Síochána will submit files to the Director of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for advice on how to proceed.

“In addition to possible criminal offenses by licensed facility owners, An Garda Síochána wants to remind everyone of their social and personal responsibility not to frequent facilities or participate in activities that may contribute to the growing spread of the Covid virus -19.

“The Covid-19 pandemic remains a public health crisis and a real threat to everyone, particularly the most vulnerable in our society, the virus is still spreading, it continues to cause serious illness and death.

“An Garda Síochána continues to call on all citizens to comply with the Public Health Guidelines and Regulations in order to continue saving lives.”
