Gardai arrested two people, including a teenager, after a search operation of four properties and two areas in Dublin in a significant update on a cash-in-transit attack last week.
On Tuesday, December 15, a CIT staff member was collecting a box of cash from a retail location on Thomas Street.
As he was returning to the security van, a man armed with a hammer approached him and snatched the box from him before fleeing the scene by bicycle.
This morning, three properties in the Dublin 8 area and one property in the Clondalkin area were looted in connection with the hammer attack.
These searches were conducted by Gardaí of the DMR South Central Serious Crimes Unit and assisted by Kevin Street and Kilmainham Gardaí.
The arrested couple, in their 30s and late teens, are currently being questioned at the Kevin Street Garda Station.
No one was physically injured in last Tuesday’s raid, and although an undisclosed sum of cash was taken, the empty cash box was found ablaze on St. Kevin’s Ave in New Street a short time later.
The fire was extinguished and the scene and the cash box have been preserved for technical and forensic examination.
