Gardaí broke up a large youth gathering at a residential complex in Dublin on Saturday night.
About 60 people attended Saturday’s gathering, in violation of rules on social distancing and the size of social gatherings, with a maximum of just 15 people allowed to gather outside in Dublin amidst its Level 3 restrictions.
Social media posts showed footage of a rave at Oliver Bond Street apartments in the city center south of Dublin on Saturday night.
The footage showed a DJ playing dance music from a tent on the grounds of an apartment complex.
In a statement, Gardaí said they responded to reports of a meeting at a residential complex.
They asked the crowd to disperse. Gardaí maintained a presence in the area and said that no breaches of the regulations were detected.
Several patrols were carried out in the area during the course of the night.
In a statement, Gardaí said: “By supporting Covid-19 public health guidelines and regulations, An Garda Síochána has adopted and will continue to adopt a graduated police response based on its tradition of consent policing.
“This has seen gardaí engage, educate, encourage and, as a last resort, enforce.”
Dublin’s southwest city center local constituency, which includes the Oliver Bond Street flats, has one of the highest rates of Covid-19 in the country.
According to the Center for Health Surveillance Protection, the electoral district had 69 confirmed cases of Covid-19 between September 1 and 14.
It had a rate of 163 cases per 100,000 inhabitants for that period, three times the average for the rest of the State.
