Gardai has opened a criminal investigation into the death of a man in a suburb of Cork early Saturday morning.
The man in his 20s was found outside a home in Eagle Valley around 1.10 a.m. after officers received reports that someone was lying unconscious.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and took him to Cork University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, reports Cork Beo.
Gardai was initially treating the death as “inexplicable” and was exploring all possibilities.
Following an autopsy, the case has turned into a criminal investigation.
The exact details of the autopsy are not released for operational reasons.
Togher gardai has set up an incident room and an appeal has been made for anyone with information.

A Garda spokesperson said: “The Gardaí has launched a criminal investigation into the death of a man in unexplained circumstances in Cork City. The incident occurred in the early hours of this morning, Saturday 29 August 2020.”
“Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 1.10 am following reports of an unconscious man at a residence in Eagle Valley, Wilton, Cork City.
“The man, in his 20s, was taken to Cork University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. An autopsy has since been performed on the man’s body, the results of which will not be released for operational purposes.
“The criminal investigation into this matter is ongoing.
“An incident room has been established at Togher Garda Station. Anyone with information in relation to this matter is requested to contact Togher Garda Station on 021 494 7120.”
