A second man has been arrested after a protest in central Dublin.

The man in his 40s and another in his 30s have been arrested for public order offenses.

Gardaí on Pearse Street attended the site of the protest at Kildare Street and Molesworth Street, which began around 1pm this afternoon.

In a statement Gardaí said they were forced to intervene when large groups with opposing views gathered in the city center early in the afternoon.

A full Garda operation was implemented from early in the morning involving up to 100 Garda staff from the DMR Center South and Center North Divisions and the National Law Enforcement Unit with the support of the Garda Dog and the Mounted Units.

At approximately 12:30 pm, two protest groups began to gather in the Molesworth Street / Kildare Street and St Stephens Green areas. Members of the Garda were forced to intervene on several occasions during the course of the afternoon to keep opposing sides apart and maintain public safety before the groups finally dispersed without any serious incident shortly after 3:30 p.m.

Gardaí says an investigation is now underway targeting the organizers of both protests.
