Gardaí arrests 11 after ‘persistent’ non-compliance at Dublin protest

Gardaí arrested 11 people in a protest planned for Wednesday in front of the Dublin High Court.

Around 9.45 a.m. M., Gardaí said that several people gathered at Inns Quay, in the vicinity of Four Courts.

The officers implemented a police operation in connection with the protest, as there is currently a ban on gatherings organized under the Covid-19 public health regulations.

The planned rally coincided with a challenge in the Court of Appeal by Gemma O’Doherty and John Waters over the Covid-19 restrictions.

Members of the Garda interacted with the assembled protesters for a period of time, but following a “persistent lack of compliance” with public health regulations and Gardaí instructions, law enforcement personnel were deployed to support the Gardaí uniform. .

Gardaí made “legal demands” on the names and addresses of several protesters, yet 11 did not provide the requested information or refused to provide it.

Arrests

As a result, the six men and five women were arrested under the 1947 Health Act, at various locations along the Dublin docks.

Those arrested were taken to Bridewell, Pearse Street, Kevin Street and Store Street Garda stations.

A man who also refused to provide his name and address was charged and appeared before District Court 4 in the Criminal Justice Courts.

He has been placed in pre-trial detention to appear in Cloverhill District Court tomorrow.

Three men and one woman were charged with crimes and released on bail.

One man and four women received fixed pay notices.

Another man has been released, pending a file for the Director of the Public Ministry.
