Gardai appealing to witnesses when teenager killed after being hit by truck in Cork city

Gardai is seeking witnesses after a teenager tragically died following an accident involving a truck in Cork city center this afternoon.

The incident occurred on Sheares Street at approximately 3:30 pm.

The teenager, a pedestrian, was taken to Our Lady of Mercy Hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead.

The road is still closed with local detours as a full forensic and technical examination is currently underway by Garda forensic collision investigators.

The truck driver was unhurt in the incident.

Gardaí is calling for witnesses to this collision to come forward. They are also attractive to any road user who may have camera footage (including dash cam) and was traveling in the area between 3:15 pm and 3:45 pm.

A spokesperson said: “Gardaí is currently at the scene of a fatal traffic collision involving a truck and a pedestrian that occurred on Sheares Street, Cork City, at approximately 3:30 pm today, Tuesday 17 November 2020.

“The pedestrian, a young man in his late teens, was taken to Our Lady of Mercy Hospital, Cork, where he was later pronounced deceased.

“The truck driver was unhurt.

“Currently the road is closed with local detours. The scene is preserved for a full forensic and technical examination by Garda forensic collision investigators.”

| Gardaí is calling for witnesses to this collision to come forward. Gardaí is also attracting road users who may have images from the camera (including the dash cam) and were traveling in the area between 3:15 pm and 3:45 pm to make these images available to Gardaí.
