A Garda was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident at a traffic stop.
Dundalk-based Garda was hit by a car fleeing the scene of a mobile speed check near Jonesborough, north of the city, on the M1 motorway.
The incident occurred around 1.45 pm when the car, which was driving north, initially stopped for control.
The injured Garda had gotten out of his patrol car to speak to the other driver, who proceeded to flee the scene at top speed.
The car and its driver, meanwhile, have not yet been located.
No arrests have been made and the Gardaí says their investigations are ongoing.
The Garda that was struck is understood to have sustained serious, but not fatal, injuries. He was taken by ambulance to Lourdes Hospital in nearby Drogheda.
Gardaí has called for anyone who has been present near the scene on the M1 and who may have images from the fleeing vehicle’s or incident’s dash cam or dash camera to make it available to them at the station. Dundalk Garda.
