Garda off duty arrested after failing breath test at crash scene in Cork

Gardai in Cork arrested an off-duty colleague after they were involved in a collision in the city in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The Guard failed a roadside breathalyzer test for alcohol after the accident at the Silver Springs hotel in the city shortly after 5:30 a.m. Saturday.

Gardaí attended the scene of a collision between a car and a van by the well-known hotel after being alerted.

A Garda statement this morning read: “On December 19, 2020, shortly after 5:30 am, Gardaí attended the scene of a traffic collision involving a car and van in Silver Springs Hill, Cork City .

“The driver of the car, an off-duty member of An Garda Síochána, was arrested for failing a roadside breathalyzer test for alcohol.

“They took him to Guranabraher Garda station and then released him without charge. The driver of the van was treated for minor injuries at Cork University Hospital. The investigation is ongoing.”
