GARDA COMMISSIONER DREW Harris is restricting his movements after being in close contact with a person who later tested positive for Covid-19.
After a socially distant meeting late last week between Harris and another person who tested positive for the virus a few days later, the Garda Commissioner was tested for Covid-19 over the weekend. The test result was negative.
Since he was informed of this close contact, according to public health guidelines, Harris has been restricting his movements, but continues to perform his duties, a Garda spokesman said.
“Public health advice regarding the use of masks and hand sanitizer was also followed at this meeting,” said the spokesperson.
Separately, several other Garda members are restricting their movements after being identified as close contacts to a positive Covid-19 case.
All members remain available for service and work remotely.
