Top Garda Drew Harris is restricting his movements after close contact with an officer who tested positive for Covid-19.

The Garda Commissioner has been working from home for the past few days due to the 14-day self-isolation requirement.

He was also tested over the weekend, but it came back negative for the coronavirus.

The officer was asymptomatic when he had an individual meeting with the commissioner at Garda headquarters.

Members of his unit’s garda who were close contacts with the officer are also restricting his movements and working from home.

The commissioner’s last public event was last Wednesday when he launched Operation Fanacht.

“The test was negative.

“In accordance with public health guidelines, since he was informed of this close contact, the commissioner has been restricting his movements, but continues to carry out his duties.

“This meeting also followed the public health advice regarding the use of masks and hand sanitizer.

“Separately, after being identified as ‘close contacts’ to a positive Covid-19 case, several other members are currently ‘restricting movement’ in accordance with HSE public health guidelines.”
