Galway City Council plans to close several popular public spaces in and around the city, at the request of the Gardaí.
The measures, introduced in an attempt to curb rising Covid-19 numbers in the county, were announced last night.
The famous Blackrock Dive Tower in Salthill will be fenced off, as will all the parking lot along the Salthill Boardwalk.
Vehicle access to Silverstrand beach in Barna will also be prohibited.
Additionally, various outdoor sports facilities throughout the city will also be closed.
All outdoor tennis courts will no longer be open to the public, nor will the all-weather soccer fields. Community centers throughout the city were also ordered to be closed.
At the request of the Gardai, the following facilities have been closed or will be closed in the coming days:

The St. Nicholas Market, which operates in Galway City Center on weekends, will be restricted to food stalls.
Several outdoor amenities were already closed as a result of the country’s recent return to Level 5 Covid-19 restrictions.
Some of Galway’s closure orders are already in effect. Others are due to take effect in the next few days.
However, the City Council says that the beaches, parks and forests will remain open to the public.
