Full list of new restrictions when Ireland enters Tier Three with ‘special measures’ for Christmas

Ireland is reverting to Level Three restrictions, of some sort, starting next week, with a series of measures for a “safe Christmas”.

As predicted, Taoiseach Micheal Martin announced tonight that retail can reopen starting next Tuesday, while bars and restaurants can open their doors starting Friday.

But the dank pubs, frequently irritated by their special status when it comes to closure measures, will not reopen in December.

Here’s a complete list of the rules for Level Three for next week:

  • Movie theaters, retail stores, gyms, museums, galleries, libraries and more can reopen on December 1
  • Pubs and restaurants can reopen on December 4
  • Wet pubs cannot reopen in December and can only operate takeout or delivery services.
  • Inter-county travel allowed between December 18 and January 6
  • The Government will review the rules of travel between counties on January 7
  • Between these dates, households can meet with two other households.
  • Weddings with up to 25 guests are allowed (same as current arrangements).
  • Funerals with up to 25 mourners are allowed (same as current provisions).
  • No indoor events should be held, except those listed below.
  • Meetings of 15 people can take place outdoors.
  • Non-contact training can take place outdoors in groups of 15.
  • Only individual training should be done indoors and no exercise or dance classes are allowed.
  • No matches / events, except professional and elite sports, approved inter-county Gaelic games, horse racing and approved equestrian events, all behind closed doors.
  • Gyms, leisure centers and swimming pools may reopen for individual training only.
  • Nightclubs, discos and casinos must be closed.
  • Hotels, guest houses, B & Bs may open with limited services only to residents.
  • Non-essential retail and personal services may be reopened.
  • Individuals should continue to work from home unless absolutely necessary to attend in person.
  • Public transport capacity is limited to 50%
