The Gardaí is looking for four people who they believe were in a car that struck and killed a cyclist in Dublin on Monday night.
Thiago Cortes, 28, was hospitalized as a result of the incident, which occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Monday.
He died this morning from his injuries at Mater Hospital.
Cortes, who was originally from Brazil, had just delivered food to Dublin’s north city center and was cycling to the north Liffey docks.
A car with no taxes, insurance, and NCT sped up and shot him down.
The driver of the car did not remain at the scene.
A 2005 Ford Focus was found abandoned in nearby Castleforbes Square apartments.
Gardaí said they were making good progress in the investigation as they seek to identify those involved.
They are examining CCTV footage and today they have asked witnesses or anyone with information to contact them at Store Street Garda Station.
They are particularly interested in talking to people who have dashcam images or cell phones and who were in the area of North Wall Quay, North Wall Avenue, East Wall Road, Sheriff Street Upper, Castleforbes Road or Castleforbes Square between 10.15pm and 10:30 pm Monday night.
A vigil for Mr. Cortés was held tonight on O’Connell Street in Dublin, with friends, Deliveroo colleagues and cyclists paying tribute to the 28-year-old.
His fiancee Teresa Dantas joined hundreds of friends from Ireland and Brazil to remember him.
The crowd marched from O’Connell Street to North Wall Quays and left flowers and candles at the scene of the hit-and-run.
Fiachra Ó Luain of the Union of English Language Students of Ireland said that the death of Mr. Cortes was “extremely devastating for the whole community, the Brazilian community, the student community in general and for all of us who respect all the work done by the students and people like Thiago for the confinement “.
Speaking about RTÉ’s Drivetime, he said they have done “a disproportionate amount of front-line work like deliveries and cleaning.”
Ó’Luain said the 28-year-old had become a Deliveroo driver a month ago.
He said Thiago came to Ireland with his girlfriend two years ago and they got engaged in recent months.
The couple had been together for more than six years and planned to marry in Brazil next year.
Ó Luain said Cortes had just finished two years of study at the Erin School of English and was in the process of completing his application and paying for an MBA.
