Four people have been rescued from a damaged ship that was beginning to sink in the south of Dublin.
The group ran into mechanical issues while anchored alongside Hawks Cliff at Dalkey just after 2:30 pm this afternoon.
Dun Laoghaire RNLI launched its all-weather lifeboat following a request from the Irish Coast Guard to rescue the group aboard the 36-foot yacht.
The crew repaired the ship before towing it back to Dun Laoghaire port.
Everyone on the yacht was wearing a life jacket and fortunately no one was injured.
A spokesperson for the RNLI said: “The all-weather lifeboat was launched at 2:25 pm under the command of Coxswain Mark McGibney with six crew members on board and proceeded to the scene arriving at 2:35 pm.
“The all-weather lifeboat towed the boat back to Dun Laoghaire harbor. While towing it, the boat was reported to be absorbing a significant amount of water and the issue was resolved before continuing.
“Upon arriving at the port of Dun Laoghaire, the lifeboat crew used the lifeboats on board the salvage pump to remove excess water from the yacht before returning to the lifeboat station.
“Everyone on board was wearing life jackets and no medical attention was required.
“The weather conditions at that time were described as good with a light wind and good visibility.
“The victims did the right thing today by calling for help and staying safely anchored until our crew arrived on the scene.
“What happened can happen to anyone and I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to make sure your boat engines and safety equipment are checked and operational before taking to the water.”
