Four people, three men and one woman, are due to appear in court in connection with incidents of violent disorder in the early hours of Christmas Eve in Kerry.

Gardaí says they searched four locations this morning in connection with a robbery and a public order incident that occurred on Hazelwood Drive in Killarney on Christmas Eve.

During these searches, several items believed to be weapons were seized, including baseball bats, hooks and hairpins.

It is understood that the Gardaí have been called to housing estates on the east side of Killarney on various occasions during Christmas.

Garda sources say they fear that most of the violent episodes are related to an ongoing dispute in the area.

They suspect that a three-year dispute, which had recently subsided, flared up once again after Christmas gatherings of family and friends from outside the area.

Two of the detainees, a man and a woman, both in their 40s, are being held at Killarney Garda station.

Two other arrested men, in their 20s, are being held at Tralee Garda Station. They are all detained under article 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

They have now been charged and are scheduled to appear in Mallow District Court on Tuesday morning, December 29.

Gardaí says their investigations are ongoing.
