Five ships sank in a Texas lake during a nautical parade in support of US President Donald Trump, but no one was injured or killed, authorities said.
Boaters began asking for help “almost immediately” after the procession for Trump’s re-election began on a lake west of Austin on Saturday, according to Kristen Dark of the Travis County Sheriff’s Office.
The deputies finally responded to 15 calls for help and received another three reports of boats taking in water.
Images from the event show the water of Lake Travis churning with the wake of dozens of ships bearing the flags of the United States, Texas and Trump 2020.
Dark said the weather on the roughly 19,000-acre (7,690-hectare) lake was calm, but the tight boats created big waves in the areas.
Officers have found no evidence of foul play, he said.
The first call for help came at 12:15 p.m., and subsequent calls for help were for boats that stalled, stalled engines and capsized, Dark said.
Three of the boats that sank were towed to shore, while the other two were still on the bottom of the lake, he said.
Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services received no calls for services related to the parade, a spokeswoman said.
