Five deaths and 416 new cases of Covid-19

The Health Department has confirmed five more deaths and 416 new cases of Covid-19 tonight.

Brings the total number of Covid-19 related deaths in Ireland to 1,913.

The figures tonight brings the Total number of confirmed cases of the virus in Ireland to 61,456.

There are currently 322 in the hospital with Covid-19 and another 42 people in the ICU with the virus.

Of the cases reported today, the Health Department said: 186 are men and 230 are women, 64 percent are under 45 and the average age is 34.

As for the location of today’s cases: 87 are in Dublin, 62 in Cork, 41 in May, 37 in Galway and the remaining 189 cases are distributed in another 20 counties.

Dr. Tony Holohan, Medical Director, said: “We are making progress in suppressing the current increase in Covid-19.

“Ireland is currently one of four EU countries with a 7 day reduction in incidence. Nationally, our breeding numbers have dropped to about 1.0.

“We are working collectively to achieve repression, but it is too early to ease our efforts. The incidence is decreasing in young adults, but continues to increase in those older than 75 years. We have more to do, but we are on the right track ”.
