Met Eireann is forecasting a highly mixed week, as mild, cold and even stormy weather hits the country.
The week will start reasonably settled with some dry spells and average temperatures.
A cold snap will return from midweek with early predictions suggesting a very wet and windy night on Wednesday and perhaps Thursday.
A forecaster from Met Eireann said: “Mostly dry at first, but it’s becoming quite unstable from the middle of the week with heavy rain at times and periods of strong winds as well. Getting cooler later in the week.”
Here’s a quick look at Met Eireann’s current five-day weather forecast for the entire country.
Met Eireann Five Day Forecast
Monday
“Monday will be mostly cloudy at first in the eastern half of the country, with erratic rains and drizzle, but the brightest, mostly dry conditions will extend from the west, with good sun in most areas in the afternoon.
“Some scattered rains will develop, mainly in the western and northwestern coastal counties. Maximum temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees, with mostly moderate westerly winds, strong for a time on the west and northwest coasts.
“Mostly dry Monday night with prolonged clear periods and isolated showers, mainly in the west. The lowest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees, the coolest in the eastern half of the country, with light breezes from the west, recede towards the south at night. Patches of fog and mist are likely to form around dawn. “
Tuesday
“Generally dry for Tuesday with spells of sunshine, while clouds will rise in the west during the day, bringing a few isolated showers during the day leading up to a swath of heavier rains arriving later in the evening. Higher temperatures 13-15 degrees with moderate breezes from the south, turning cool to strong on the west coast later in the day.
“A humid and windy night, as the persistent rain in the counties of the Atlantic coast will move towards the east, sometimes intense, especially in the southern half of the country. The lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees, colder in Ulster and Leinster, with a fresh, gusty south wind, strong on all coasts at times. ”
Wednesday
“A wet and stormy start to the day as the rain continues to move eastward and out into the Irish Sea, but more heavy and frequent rains or longer periods of rain will continue to flow across the country from the Atlantic. Temperatures warmer 12-15 degree highs in moderate to cool westerlies, subsiding towards night.

Thursday

The rains will become widespread during the afternoon and may merge to give longer periods of rain as mainly light winds veer out of the west. Cool with maximum temperatures of only 10 to 13 degrees. ”
Friday
“Friday will be a cool and cool day with periods of sun and more rain and showers, mainly in the north and east of the country. The highest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees with light to moderate breezes from the north, but becoming more stormy late in the southwest. “
