An investigation is underway into the cause of a fire that severely damaged a building in Oldcastle, Co Meath.
Several units of the fire department attended the fire in the building of the cooperative shortly after 7 pm yesterday.
No one was injured in the fire, but Gardaí says there has been extensive damage to the building, which is a home, garden and DIY store.
Gardaí says it is unclear how the fire started.
Meath West TD Sinn Féin TD Johnny Guirke, who shared images of the fire on Twitter, said it was “sad to see a local business on fire on Halloween night.”
He said he hoped Gardaí could get to the bottom of how this fire started.
Sad to see a local business on fire on Halloween night, many people could lose their jobs and if this was started maliciously, putting our local firefighters at risk, I hope the Gardai can get to the bottom of this fire. pic.twitter.com/3bWE5u7sON
