A security company that witnessed the aftermath of a house repossession in Roscommon two years ago was fined a total of 3,000 euros.

Armagh’s private security company was found guilty today in Castlerea District Court for six violations of the Private Security Services Act.

Judge Deirdre Gearty fined the company 500 euros for each of the six charges with costs of 7,500 euros awarded to the company.

The prosecution by the Private Security Authority (PSA) followed the provision of unlicensed security guard service by GS Agencies Limited of Portadown, Craigavon, Co Armagh in Falsk, Strokestown, Co Roscommon in December 2018 .

It followed the earlier recovery of a house belonging to a farmer.

Following the court case, PSA Executive Director Paul Scallan said: “This prosecution stems from investigations into security services that were provided after a property was repossessed in Strokestown in 2018.

“While the PSA has no legal role in regulating recoveries, we do regulate security services that occur after a recovery

In this case, a security surveillance service was provided at a location in Falsk in the days after the recovery.

“These services require a PSA license and in this case the security provider, GS Agencies Limited, was not licensed.”

The PSA, an agency of the Department of Justice and Equality, is responsible for the regulation and licensing of the security industry.
