Gardaí arrested a fifth person in connection with the witness intimidation allegation in connection with the recent criminal trial of Garda’s killer, Aaron Brady.
Brady, a 29-year-old father of one from South Armagh, was jailed last week for 40 years for the capital murder of Det Garda Adrian Donohoe in Co Louth seven years ago.
Brady was also imprisoned for 14 years, to run simultaneously, for his role in the armed robbery at Lordship Credit Union, Bellurgan, during which the detective was shot and killed.
On Monday, Gardaí from the Garda National Criminal Investigation Office (GNBCI) said they continue to investigate allegations of witness intimidation, perverting the course of justice and the illegal use of mobile phones in the prison environment, in relation to the recent criminal trial. .
A Gardaí detective attached to the GNBCI felony review team detained a person in connection with this investigation on Monday.
The detained person is currently being held under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Bridewell Garda Station, Dublin. A Garda spokesman said investigations are ongoing.
This is the fifth arrest of its kind in this investigation. The four people previously arrested in connection with this investigation on 8 October have been released without charge. Files will be prepared for the Director of the Public Ministry.
