A White House spokesman called Dr. Fauci’s claims “unacceptable” for “breaking all the rules … choosing three days before an election to play politics.”

As Trump’s senior adviser on the coronavirus, Dr. Fauci has “a duty to express concerns or push for a change in strategy, but he has not done so,” the spokesman continued.

They accused him of “choosing to criticize the president in the media” with an intervention that “would make his political leanings known” by praising the president’s opponent.

Trump supporters surround Biden’s campaign bus

That would put the Democratic hopeful ahead of Hilary Clinton in 2016 – her lead had dropped to 4% at the same point in the last election.

Biden’s group has accused the president’s supporters of trying to “put our staff, substitutes, supporters and others in danger” by circling a campaign bus through Texas.

But Trump welcomed the action, tweeting a video of the incident and writing: “I LOVE TEXAS!”
