The father of a baby who was found dead in his home in Dublin was unaware of the infant’s death until Gardaí called the home to inform him that his partner’s body had been found in the Strawberry Beds area of the city.
The man had been sleeping and was visited by Gardaí in the early hours of Thursday, according to The Irish Times.
Gardaí is treating the baby’s death as “inexplicable”, pending the results of a post-mortem examination carried out yesterday on the seven-month-old baby.
The death of the mother is being treated as a tragedy.
Gardaí has said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.
The Irish Times reports that the family was originally from the west of the country, but has been living in Lucan for some time.
At approximately 3.45 a.m. Thursday, Gardaí was alerted to a woman acting suspiciously after exiting his care on the M50 near the toll plaza.
Following the investigation, her body was discovered at Lower Road, Strawberry Beds in Lucan, after which gardaí established the woman’s address by checking her vehicle registration.
Officers informed the father of the incident shortly after, at which point the boy was found to be unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene.
A Garda statement said: “At this stage, the investigative Gardaí are treating these incidents as a family tragedy and are currently not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.” The family has asked for privacy “in this sad moment.”
