GANGSTER FAT FREDDIE Thompson will appeal his conviction for the murder of David ‘Daithí’ Douglas, the Court of Appeals heard today.
Thompson (39) of Loreto Road, Maryland, Dublin 8, pleaded not guilty to involvement in murder, but was jailed for life in Special Criminal Court in August 2018.
Douglas was shot six while having lunch at the counter of his partner’s store, Shoestown on Bridgefoot Street, Dublin 8, on July 1, 2016.
In court this morning, Thompson’s attorneys said they would appear to represent him on his conviction appeal, but had not yet filed grounds for appeal in court to receive the transcripts.
The three-judge court heard that Michael Finucane Solicitors will sign up for Thompson, who originally gave his notice of appeal himself from prison.
Free legal aid was granted to Michael Finucane Solicitor in the matter, which will be listed to set a date once the grounds for appeal have been filed.
