The FAI confirmed tonight that their investigation into a video shown to the Republic of Ireland squad before the recent friendly against England is closed and that they are satisfied with the explanations provided.
The Boys in Green were shown footage that was supposed to motivate them against the old enemy at Wembley. They went on to lose the game 3-0.
The FAI confirmed late Thursday that an investigation would be carried out into the tone and content of the video, but the association has now said the matter is “closed.”
A statement from the FAI read: “Earlier this week, issues related to content shared with Ireland’s senior men’s team prior to the recent friendly against England at Wembley Stadium were brought to the attention of the FAI.
“After this development, the FAI decided that it was appropriate to investigate the matter.
“Since then, the FAI has had conversations with various members of staff and players, including team principal Stephen Kenny.
“The Board has accepted the explanations provided and considers that the matter is now closed.”
Kenny’s attention will now turn to the World Cup qualifiers in March, with Ireland in pot three for next month’s draw in Zurich.
