The FAI has confirmed that Jonathan Hill will take over as the new CEO as of November 1, 2020.
The five-person interview panel recommended last month that Hill, a former commercial director of the English Football Federation, should take over the rival candidates, the president of the Irish Olympic Federation, Sarah Keane, and the former director of Six Nations, John Feehan.
In addition to his position as commercial director with the FA, the 57-year-old Englishman served as commercial director for Wembley Stadium and previously as commercial director for Euro 96.
He also served as CEO of the Laureus World Sports Awards.
The new CEO told FAI.ie that he was excited to oversee the “business transformation within the organization.”
“It is a true honor for me to be appointed Executive Director of the FAI and I am looking forward to working with the staff, the wider football community, our business stakeholders and the Government in the future, driving the development of football at all levels. within Ireland, overseeing the ongoing process of business transformation within the organization and, of course, tackling the challenges Covid presents to our game. ”
FAI President Gerry McAnaney hailed Hill’s appointment as a “turning point for Irish football.”
“Jonathan’s appointment is going to be a turning point for Irish football after the events of the last 18 months and we all wish him the best in this new role. I would also like to thank Acting General Manager Gary Owens for his immense contribution. and his invaluable leadership in his time with us. Gary brought great stability to the FAI over the past 10 months and I hope Gary will continue to be involved in Irish football in some way in the future. “
Welcoming the appointment, FAI Board President Roy Barrett said: “I know Jonathan’s experience in the world of business and football will bring real benefit to the FAI and I look forward to working with him on behalf of all. our shareholders as we build for the future. “
Acting CEO Gary Owens said: “I really look forward to Jonathan’s arrival and working alongside him in the transition period. I know from experience that he is about to join a really strong team and I want to thank all the staff for the significant progress made and hard work over the past 10 months. “
In its statement, the FAI revealed that Hill will initially work between London and Dublin, but will build on the latter as soon as it is safe to do so.
