Ireland has seen another spike in Covid-19 cases with over 1,000 new infections recorded.
Sadly, five other people also lost their lives, bringing the death toll here to 1,835.
Speaking on the cases tonight, Dr Tony Holohan, Medical Director, explained that the current situation in Ireland is “extremely worrying”.
He said: “Today, we are again reporting a daily number of new confirmed cases of more than 1,000. This situation is extremely worrying. Each of us has a role to play.
“We all need to reduce contact with other people as much as possible, so that means staying home, working from home whenever possible, practicing physical distancing, and stopping discretionary socializing.”

Of the current cases, 246 occurred in Dublin, 185 in Meath, 128 in Cavan, 118 in Cork, 63 in Kildare, and the remaining 342 cases are spread across all remaining counties.
In the last two weeks alone, 9,097 cases were confirmed in Ireland.
Meanwhile, health chiefs continue to express concern about the incidence rate of 14 days per 100,000 inhabitants.
The national incidence rate now stands at 190.7, yet several counties are showing alarming trends with much higher incidence rates.
