Ireland saw hundreds more confirmed coronavirus cases tonight, but some positive trends are emerging across the country.
Another 499 infections were announced on Friday, with eight people tragically losing their lives.
While the case numbers are still high, there have been repeated signals from health and political chiefs that the country is heading in the right direction to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Earlier this week, Health Minister Stephen Donnelly hinted that the country could enter Level Two restrictions once the shutdown ends on December 1.
But Tanaiste Leo Varadkar was more cautious, saying that we will “definitely” remain under the current measures until at least December 1, when they should be reviewed.
And Varadkar said he cannot provide clarity on the restrictions that will apply if Level Five ends in December.
He told the Dail: “I would love to be able to stand here and say that on December 1 we will move to Level 3 or 2 and give people the ability to plan their lives and businesses, but I am not in a position to do that.”
There were still a large number of confirmed cases in Dublin and Cork, however a large number of counties showed very promising signs by registering fewer than five infections.
A breakdown of today’s cases shows that 175 were in Dublin, 72 in Cork, 29 in Limerick, 26 in May, 21 in Meath and the remaining 176 cases were spread across 19 other counties.
