Exact location of current 208 Covid-19 cases in Ireland and what it means for ‘local closures’

Most of today’s 208 new Covid-19 cases were back in Dublin and the county is expected to see tighter restrictions after Tuesday.

The Health Department announced another 108 cases in the capital after similar numbers every day for the past week.

Louth was the next highest with 18 confirmed today with Donegal, 12, and Meath, 10, both not far behind.

After a big jump of 22 on Sunday, Waterford saw eight more, which could ease concerns about local restrictions there.

Exact location of the current 208 new cases

This is exactly where all the current Covid-19 cases were;

Dublin – 108

Louth – 18

Donegal – 12

Meath – 10

Kildare – 9

Waterford – 8

Cork – 7

Limerick – 6

Wexford – 6

The rest in Carlow, Cavan, Clare, Galway, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Mayo, Roscommon, Tipperary, Westmeath and Wicklow.

‘Local closures’

One of the key statistics that the Health Department will use to assess so-called local closures is the 14-day incidence rate of confirmed cases per 100,000 residents.

By this measure, and without taking today’s figures into account, Dublin is by far the most affected area in the country, with a rate of 89.1.

They are followed by Limerick at 65.7 and Leitrim at 65.5.

The threshold for placing Kildare, Laois, and Offaly in a local lockdown was roughly 80, so counties outside of Dublin should be safe for now.
