Met Eireann this morning confirmed that the remnants of Hurricane Epsilon will hit Ireland early next week.
The forecaster is closely following the weather front with warnings likely to be issued over the weekend.
Weather bosses expect the storm to land Tuesday and stay for 48 hours with torrential rains and hurricane-force winds.
A forecaster from Met Eireann said: “The remnants of Hurricane Epsilon will impact our shores during the weekday period. Torrential and scattered rains are expected Tuesday, along with fresh to strong and gusty southerly winds.
“Humid and very windy or stormy after dark, with strong gales and gusts of wind from south to southwest. The rain will turn stormy at times with risk of hail. Higher temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees Celsius.”
“Sustained strong winds and frequent rains are expected Wednesday with the continued risk of hail and embedded thunderstorms. Higher temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees Celsius.”
The weather front is currently in the Atlantic, but is currently heading towards the North West of Ireland.
Forecaster Liz Walsh added: “Hurricane Epsilon rapidly intensified to a Category 3 hurricane Wednesday night (Irish time) over the central Atlantic, southeast of Bermuda.
“Since then it has decreased in intensity and currently the National Hurricane Center analyzes it as a strong category 1 hurricane.”
“Tropical storm conditions are still expected in Bermuda today. A gradual decrease in intensity is expected as the system begins to move over cooler waters and encounters strong winds in the air. Epsilon is still forecast to curve toward the Northeast Bermuda for the next several years.
“It is not yet clear how exactly Epsilon will affect weather conditions in Ireland, but the timeline remains the same: early next week, around Tuesday / Wednesday. Met Éireann meteorologists will continue to closely monitor the system. as it goes through the extratropical transition for the next number of days. “
