EastEnders’ Chantelle Atkins to be killed by her husband Gray in tragic end to domestic abuse plot

EastEnders has confirmed that fan favorite Chantelle Atkins will be murdered by her abusive husband Gray, in a tragic ending to the BBC soap opera domestic abuse story.

It was the conclusion viewers feared, as Gray’s violent abuse of his wife escalated after the story began early last year.

It was soon revealed that the physical and mental abuse had been going on for much longer, with difficult scenes highlighting the torture he had been subjecting her to.

Chantelle hasn’t told anyone about her ordeal, while Chief Kheerat Panesar has become suspicious and tries to help her in the next scenes, as she plans her escape.

But sadly, Chantelle won’t get away and is killed by Gray in a shocking twist.

The telenovela has confirmed the news, although all the details and when he will die have not yet been revealed.

EastEnders has worked closely with Women’s Aid and Refuge on the story, and the soap opera will return to screens this week.

He was forced off the air in June due to the coronavirus pandemic halting filming in March, but the characters have been locked in like the rest of us.

Viewers will soon discover that Gray has taken a turn for the worse during the confinement, and Chantelle makes the brave decision to leave him and get a divorce.

Tragically, he will end his plan and claim his life, as he kills Chantelle just when it looks like he’s going to break free.

The story comes when Refuge, which has a 24-hour National Domestic Abuse Helpline, saw an increase in calls and contacts made to the service during the pandemic.

Women’s Aid also shared new statistics that revealed that more than two-thirds of survivors reported that their domestic abuse escalated during lockdown.

Similarly, EastEnders will reflect this when Chantelle discovers that her own abuse has escalated since the confinement, and decides that enough is enough.

The events will bring his time in Walford to a fatal end, with soap opera boss Jon Sen explaining the decision to go this route with the harrowing plot.

Hoping to encourage the victims to speak up, he spoke about the story and praised cast members Jessica Plummer and Toby Alexander-Smith, who play the couple.
