Dunnes Stores and Lidl recalls batches of chicken due to possible presence of listeria

Cooked chicken sold in Dunnes stores and Lidl supermarkets has been recalled due to food safety concerns.

Tikka-style and roast chicken pieces have been recalled due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that causes listeriosis infection.

It most often affects people with weakened immune systems.

Dunnes Stores My Family Favorites Cooked Chicken Pieces, Dunnes Stores My Family Favorites Cooked Chicken Tikka Pieces sold at Dunnes and Glensallagh Family Pack Roast Chicken Breast Pieces stores, as well as Glensallagh Family Pack Tikka Style Chicken Pieces, sold at Lidl, will be recalled as a precaution.

Lidl chicken with batch codes P3629 and P4629 and use through October 2, 2020 is recalled, while all batch codes and all use dates for chicken sold in Dunnes stores are recalled .

The Dunnes Stores chicken was recalled first and the Irish Food Safety Authority, which issues the recalls, later updated the notice to say that the Lidl chicken will also be recalled.

“Retailers are requested to remove the involved lots from sale and to display a recall notice at the point of sale in the stores where the affected lots were sold,” said an FSAI statement.

“Consumers are advised not to eat the batches involved.”

Symptoms of listeriosis include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and a stiff neck.

In rare cases, the infection can be more serious and cause serious complications.

Dunnes Stores did not immediately respond to Independent.ie’s request for comment.

A Lidl spokesperson said: “As a precaution, Faughan Foods has extended a previous recall of Glensallagh Roast Chicken Breast Pieces and Glensallagh Tikka Style Chicken Breast for sale at Lidl, to include additional use by October 2, 2020. If there is purchased one of these products, do not consume it. Return it to the store for a full refund.
