Dungarvan Stripped of County Title for Covid Violation, Waterford GAA Confirms

Dungarvan GAA club has been stripped of its Waterford intermediate football title, after playing the final with a player awaiting a Covid-19 test result.

Six club members have also been suspended by the county’s Coiste Bainistí, says a statement from the county board.

“In addition to the investigation into the matters arising from the Intermediate Soccer Final and the positive Covid-19 case, the Waterford County Board Management Executive wishes to report that individual suspensions and disqualification penalties have been accepted. and a fine for Dungarvan GAA Club, “the statement read.

“Executive Management wishes to thank the officers and members of Dungarvan GAA for their full cooperation with the investigation.

“Waterford GAA will not comment further on the matter.”

The club was sanctioned in accordance with Rule 7.2 (e) of the Official Guide: “Misconduct considered as discrediting of the Association”. For a team or unit, disqualification may be considered and for individuals a minimum suspension of eight weeks.

After beating Kill in the IFC final at Walsh Park on October 4, Dungarvan apologized for introducing a player who had not yet received a coronavirus test result, which he later tested positive. They acknowledged that “the club made mistakes in interpreting the Covid-19 guidelines.”
