Darren Daly of Dublin has announced his retirement from inter-county football after 12 years with the Sky Blues.
Daly was a trusted defender for Jim Gavin throughout his career, coming off the bench in five finals for Ireland.
But after battling injuries in 2020, the Fingal Ravens player was forced to make the decision to end his intercountry journey.
“I have had an incredible journey with the Dublin senior soccer team for the past 12 years,” he said in a statement on Friday.
“I tried to push the body one more time, but unfortunately it didn’t. With a series of recurring injuries in recent months, now is the right time to walk away.”
“I would like to thank my teammates. I am very fortunate to have been a part of such a successful team. I am grateful to have learned so much from being with them, to have made so many lifelong friends and to have some of the best memories. imaginable.
“Thanks to the dedicated fans who always created that unique atmosphere and were there when we needed them.”
Daly appeared on many of Dublin’s biggest days in recent years
Dessie Farrell’s charges gear up for the National League resumption as they end the season against Meath and Galway. They will then face Westmeath in the quarterfinals of the Leinster Championship.
