Dublin has a 13-hour weather warning today as the country begins to feel the influence of winter this week.

The yellow rain warning status has been issued for the capital, Louth, Wicklow and Meath and is in effect from 1 am this morning until 2 pm

Met Eireann warns: “There will be heavy downpours on Wednesday night and Thursday morning that may result in flooding in some rivers and places.”

They added: “Today will be a cool and stormy day with longer downpours and periods of rain. There will be strong gusts in some places and localized flooding is possible.”

Temperatures of 14 ° C will drop to 4 ° C overnight with the mercury set to drop lower and lower as the week progresses.

Friday night will see temperatures drop to 2 ° C and on Saturday it will hit 1 ° C with possible frosts.

In other parts of the country, there is a yellow status wind warning for Clare, Cork and Kerry.
