A popular Dublin Airport flight service has been canceled for the foreseeable future ahead of the busy Christmas travel period, as fears continue to grow for those looking to return home before the holidays.
Hong Kong carrier Cathay Pacific has canceled seven international routes at a loss, including the capital, which were seriously in the red due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Besides Dublin, Newark; Washington; Brussels; Seattle; London Gatwick and flights to the Maldives have also been affected, but it may not be permanent.
A source said that although services will not return in 2020, they could be restored once travel returns to normal around the world.
The airline had stopped flights to and from Dublin last November as part of a short winter break.
They were supposed to start the service four times a week starting at the end of March this year, but it was subsequently suspended due to the lockdown.
The news comes when passengers and the public will be able to perform a Covid-19 test at Dublin airport starting this Thursday.
It is planned to open two new facilities with prices from € 99 and up to € 159 if you want the results in five hours.
All clients will need to book their test online in advance directly with the healthcare companies that operate them: Randox and RocDoc.
The providers have a capacity of more than 12,000 tests per day if required, which is expected to expand to 15,000.
Vincent Harrison, Dublin Airport Managing Director, said: “We have been looking forward to testing at Dublin Airport for some time and the recent decision by the Government to grant a planning waiver, which we very much welcome, will allow two facilities to test will open this Thursday. “
