Drivers will be charged for dropping off passengers at Dublin airport under the new plans.

The proposed new zones will operate in front of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 and a new 30-minute “reduced rate” period will also be introduced in short-term parking lots.

However, a Dublin airport staff member said these plans will be difficult to implement.

They added: “For drivers using taxi apps, this will be terrible.

“They’re not supposed to be there, but we all know they come anyway because some days the taxi line is long and passengers just want to get home as quickly as possible, so use the apps, work is there for you. they.

“I imagine that they will just charge the passengers the toll in addition to the fare and enter that way, especially if the toll lanes are automated.

“It is difficult to deal with them because we are already seeing everything else that happens in front of the terminals, it will be necessary to have people in charge of monitoring it.”

The planning application has been submitted to the Fingal County Council for the new
infrastructure.

A spokeswoman for the DAA said: “The goal of the new drop-and-pick proposal
The zone system aims to reduce the number of car trips to and from the airport and to encourage passengers to make greater use of public transport.

“DAA has submitted a planning request to FCC for the infrastructure required to introduce the new system, including changes to the internal campus road network, new exit lanes and new barriers on the main exit road from Dublin Airport.

“It will be more efficient to complete construction work during the current drop in passenger numbers, as there will be significantly less disruption to the airport’s road network.

“Currently, private cars can drop off in front of both terminals, however, private vehicle pick-up is not allowed at these locations.

“The current system has been abused by some for several years, with cars illegally stopping to wait for pickup or circling the campus streets several times before they finally pick up their party.”

Questions were asked online about what will happen to people with disabilities.

One Twitter user said: “Dublin Airport to prevent cars from picking up passengers outside the terminals, what should you do if you have a disability?

Dublin Airport responded: “There will be a provision for people with reduced mobility.”
