The DUBLIN airport responded after a group of boys came in to drink alcohol without boarding a flight.
The group bought a flight for € 9.99 to avoid security and go for pints at the airport bar.
Dublin Airport has been considered an essential service by the government and is therefore allowed to open during the closure of Level 5.
All restaurants and cafes serving alcohol at the airport can remain open with the € 9 meal rule in force.
However, earlier this week, a group of four found a way to circumvent the Level 5 restrictions, which has caused all pubs to close for dinner inside and bought flights for the sole purpose of drinking pints at the airport. .
On social media they said: “When the pubs are closed and the only place they serve is the airport, then book a € 9.99 flight (which you have no intention of going up) to go have a few beers with the guys, there to dance. “
APPEARANCE OPEN TO THE COURT
A Dublin airport spokesperson said that people who book cheap flights in an attempt to drink inside without intending to board their plane could be punished as they could violate airport ordinances.
They said: “The Government has indicated that the operation of Irish airports is an ‘essential service’ within the Tier 5 guidelines.
“The provision of food and beverage facilities in the area of the zone of operations, that is, after security, for the very small number of people traveling today is part of that service.
“The operator of the establishment in question requires that anyone who purchases alcohol also purchases a substantial meal at a cost of € 9.
“If, as stated, four people went through security without the intention of traveling, but to take advantage of that food and beverage service, that would appear to be a violation of the airport statutes that establish that” a person cannot hire in any activity that endanger or interfere with the … orderly operation of an airport. “
The spokesperson cautioned that individuals who violate these statutes may be open to possible court appearance.
BACKGROUND OF SOCIAL MEDIA
They continued: “We have no evidence that such activity is taking place other than a single post on a specific Facebook page.
“If, as stated, four people were engaged in this activity and booked flights at a cost of 9.99 euros each, then each would also have had to buy a meal of 9 euros.
“Therefore, the group would have had to spend 75.96 euros, plus the cost of the trip to and from Dublin airport, before buying a single alcoholic drink.”
The group’s social media post received a strong reaction from the public.
One person said, “” You’d like to be pretty desperate to get to these levels just for a few pints. Sad if you ask me. Six weeks without a pint is not going to kill you. “
The angry bartender replied, “Ah, rejoice FFS.”
While another person criticized the order saying: “A great idea ruined by someone ordering Guinness at the airport bar. When will people learn?”
