A passenger at Dublin Airport surprised travelers by wearing a Covid-proof hazmat suit on his flight home for Christmas.
Emer, who works at a zoo in Bedfordshire in the UK, had not seen his family in Ireland for over a year.
He explained that he had quarantined himself before his flight and that he had also recently conducted a Covid test.
Emer told Today with Claire Byrne on RTE Radio One: “I traveled from Luton, I haven’t seen my family in a year, it was very important for me to take it seriously.
“I’ve been isolated for the last 10 days. I really needed to see my mom, I live alone.
“It can be very lonely, so I miss family a lot, so I’ve tried everything to try to stay as safe as possible.
“I’m wearing a hazmat suit, I have a visor, a mask, I have two pairs of gloves, and I am using a lot of disinfectant and wipes.
“I have been isolating myself for the last ten days and I did a Covid test which is negative, I just want to keep my mom and dad safe so it’s for them.”
“I know they recommend people not [travel] but it is very important to my mental health. So I took all the precautions I could to keep them as safe as possible. “
Emer’s father was full of praise for his daughter’s efforts to get home during the holiday season.
He added: “He hasn’t been home for the last year, we’re so excited he’s coming home.”
“I think she’s brilliant, I can’t tell you how much she loves her mom and dad, she’s trying to protect us too.
