GROSSICK RACES

If ever a horse deserved high-level honors it was Dream Of Dreams, who finally broke the Group 1 ceiling in Haydock’s main flat race.

The Sprint Cup has become the domain of three-year-olds, but a horse twice that age and in the shape of his life propelled Oisin Murphy to deny Hollie Doyle a famous Glen Shiel hit.

Doyle, who entered his first Group 1 in Great Britain, was in contention shooting 25-1 two furlongs, but Dream Of Dreams, an impressive seven furlongs winner at last month’s Hungerford Stakes, finished with the best score by a length and a quarter and make up for two near misses at Royal Ascot.

In the last two races of the Diamond Jubilee, Dream Of Dreams was beaten in the head, including in 2019 by Blue Point, who was virtually unbeatable at the Berkshire course.

“I’m delighted that he got his victory in Group 1, he deserves it,” said Murphy, who was winning the Sprint Cup for the second time after winning with another six-year-old, The Tin Man, two years ago.

“I was really excited to get back at him as he gave me an amazing feeling at Newbury and I’m excited for him to back him up. He traveled well and picked up the line well. He didn’t have that electrical blast that he showed in Newbury, but it was really good. “

Coach Sir Michael Stoute’s victory was heartwarming, following the death of teammate Coral Pritchard-Gordon last month.

“I’m excited for Sir Michael and his team,” added Murphy after a century-elevating victory in Britain during the year. “After losing partner Coral, it’s been a tough few weeks and hopefully that will give him a boost.”

It was Stoute’s third career victory, 33 years after back-to-back victories in the 1980s with Green Desert and Ajdal.

Dream Of Dreams, who has shown more consistency this season since being gelding, was cut to the overall favorite for next month’s Champions Sprint Stakes, with William Hill leading 7-2 (9-2).

Philip Robinson, representative of owner Saeed Suhail, said: “He’s been gelding and he’s finding out what ability he has. The way he went and won at Newbury did him a lot of good.”

“He’s thriving and now he has his confidence, he’s going forward and up. He’s six and could be a better kid at seven. We’ll talk about it, but he likes Ascot and my intuition is that he will go there.” following.”

Dream Ahead’s son, a 2011 Sprint Cup winner, will have to pass a loss test before then, having been the subject of a third criterion failure early on.

A week after making history with a five-time at Windsor, current jockey Doyle came close to her biggest success at Glen Shiel, coached by Archie Watson.

She said: “I thought I could win two. I was very excited about that and I am very proud of him. He recovered when he walked and chased the winner to the line. I am very happy for Archie and the owners. [Hambleton Racing].

“It was a huge race, so I don’t see why Group 1 can’t win. We have to pinch ourselves for what it has achieved. I would say that Champions’ Day will be the next target.”
