Dr. Tony Holohan shared data tonight that he said “shows rapidly increasing growth rates across the country,” as another 814 coronavirus cases were reported in the past 24 hours.

The main doctor said that the incidence rates of Covid-19 in the last week were higher than half those of the last two weeks in 22 of the 26 counties of the Republic, which means that the virus has increased its spread in those counties last week.

Dr. Holohan asked everyone to limit social contacts and maintain physical distance when away from home to combat the spread.

The Medical Director added: “It is vital that the entire population consistently implement public health advice in their daily lives; Keep your social contacts to an absolute minimum and maintain physical distance when you need to be away from home.

Dr. Tony Holohan, Medical Director, Department of Health

“22 out of 26 counties have 7-day incidence rates as a percentage of 14-day incidence rates greater than 50%.

“This shows rapidly increasing growth rates across the country.”

Of the 814 cases reported today;

  • 432 are men / 381 are women
  • 70% are under 45 years old
  • The average age is 32 years.
  • 226 are in Dublin, 77 in Cork, 64 in Galway, 56 in Donegal, 48 in Meath and the remaining 343 cases are distributed in all the remaining counties

As of 2:00 p.m. today, 204 Covid-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 30 are in the ICU.

There were also 16 additional hospitalizations in the last 24 hours.

Sadly, two more people died from the coronavirus last day.
