Dr. Tony Holohan believes that the latest trend in coronavirus cases is “worrisome due to the delicate and precarious situation we find ourselves in.”
Six more people have died due to Covid-19, and 431 new cases of the disease were also reported.
Wednesday’s announcement means there have been a total of 2,140 COVID-related deaths in Ireland, with 77,197 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country.
“We are seeing significant and worrying indicators that this disease is moving in the wrong direction, including an increase in positivity rates and incidence from 7 and 14 days, and our 5-day average has now risen to 339 cases,” Dr. Holohan said.
And he adds: “Recent international experience has shown how quickly this disease can spiral out of control. These trends are all the more worrisome given the delicate and precarious situation we find ourselves in; as a country, we are heading into a period of potential Generalized mix between households and intergenerational.
“This is an ideal opportunity for the virus to spread and impact those most vulnerable to its most severe effects. Don’t give COVID19 this opportunity: limit your contacts, prioritize who you know, and let’s stay tuned so we can get through this together. . “
At 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 207 patients are hospitalized, of which 30 are in the ICU.
There were 22 additional hospitalizations in the last 24 hours.
In terms of the most recent new cases reported, 185 are men, while 244 are women.
67% are under 45 years old and the average age is 35 years.
Regarding the geographical location of the new cases, 134 were in Dublin, and Donegal (53), Cavan (25), Louth (24) and Mayo (22) reported new cases.
The remaining 173 cases are spread across all other remaining counties.
